Brad Jones paid a visit to Chevrolet engine builder Kenny McNamara’s shop for a rundown of the reasons for its Bathurst 1000 blow-up, in his team’s latest tech video.
According to McNamara, two thirds of the engine in question will be salvaged for the rebuild of the unit which belongs to the #8 R&J Batteries Camaro.
He explains how the problem started when damage was caused to the thrust bearing – possibly due to a journey to the kitty litter – which translated the dramas to the crankshaft and eventually blocked the oil filter.

They then go through the disassembled engine, laid out on benches at KRE’s workshop, and outline the full impact, as well as what can be used for the rebuild.
